Ruby Lee Johns Morgan Griffis, 84 of Jesup died Friday, June 28, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.

The Brantley County native lived most of her life in Wayne County and was a lifelong member of Jesup Church of God. She retired from Wayne Memorial Hospital as a nursery nurse and was a devoted children’s Sunday school teacher and children’s church leader for many years.

Ruby is predeceased by her late husbands, Allen John “AJ” Morgan and Dennis Edwin Griffis; parents, Frederick Johns and Bessie Griffis; siblings, Virginia Spradley, Effie Mae Johns, Ida Mae Wrenn, Fred “Buddy” Johns and Earl Melton.

Survivors are a son, Danny (Maralyn) Morgan of Jesup; a daughter, Janice M. Spell of Jesup; a son-in-law, Larry Spell of Screven; step-sons, Dennis (Ruth) Griffis of Cottage Grove, Minn, Jim (Jan) Griffis of Greenbrier, Tenn. and Glen (Monika) Griffis of Alexandria, Va.; grandchildren, Dr. Larissa (Josh) Fenn, Brandy Spell, Dr. Katie (Rob) Hudgens, Elizabeth (Dexter) Brand, Shannon Harris, Brianna Drew, Russell Drew, Molly Griffis, Caroline Griffis, Katie Griffis and Alex Griffis; a special niece, Sheila (Cal) Rinehart and her children, Jakob, Kenna, Riley and Logan Rinehart; great grandchildren, Autumn Geiger, Christopher Geiger, Morgana Fenn, Holden Fenn, James Oliver Hudgens, Gabriel Harmon, Juliette Harris, Krissi Drew, Zaylee Drew and Layla Drew.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, July 1, 2019 at Rinehart Chapel with Rev. Stanley Todd and Rev. Lee Owens officiating.

Interment will follow in the Jesup City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robert Morgan, Calvin Strickland, Josh Sikes, Cal Rinehart, Russell Drew, Jakob Rinehart and Robert Middleton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Jesup Church of God Adult Sunday School Class, Screven First Baptist Adult Sunday School Class, staffs of Hospice of South Georgia and Dr. Pumpelly.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 PM Sunday, June 30, 2019 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, Ga. 31545.
