Esther M. Smoker, age 88, formerly of Gap, passed away at Landis Homes on Friday, June 28, 2019. She was the wife of the late Abner D. Smoker who passed away on October 27, 2015. She was born in Meade, KS, daughter of the late Henry A. & Margaret L. Friesen.
She was a member of Forest Hills Mennonite Church, where she was involved with the sewing circle. She worked with MCC from 1952-1956 in Maryland and California and then assisted her husband in business Abner Smoker Excavating. Esther enjoyed collecting dishes and glass bells.
Surviving are two sons: Darrell L. Smoker of Strasburg and LeVon R. husband of Cindy Reser Smoker of Harrisonburg, VA., 3 grandchildren, 1 brother Marvin M. husband of Elvina Isaac Friesen, Plains, TX She was preceded in death by a daughter Darla J. Benner, siblings: Margaret M. Wiens, Pete M., Menno M., Dan M. Friesen and Elda M. Plank.
Memorial service will take place at the Forest Hills Mennonite Church, 100 Quarry Road, Leola, PA on Wednesday, July 3rd at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Nina Harnish will be officiating. There will be a time to greet the family following the service. Interment will take place prior to the memorial service in the Ridgeview Mennonite Cemetery.
