Shirley Nixon Ireland passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2019, in Roanoke, Va., at the age of 92. She was born on March 22, 1927 and was a loving mother to Steven C. Ireland. Shirley was a dedicated and hard worker for over 40 years at Graham-White Manufacturing in Salem, Va. She had a strong Christian faith and loved her church home and family, First Baptist Church of Roanoke, Va., where she sang in the choir for many years and was active in all areas of the church. Shirley spent her last 10 years as a resident at Salem Health & Rehab, located in Salem, Va. She loved the many angels at Salem Health & Rehab who were truly God-sent. Shirley was known for her unwavering positive attitude and caring smile. She was spunky and always excited to carry on a conversation with those around her. Shirley will be missed by all that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Ireland; and son, Steven C. Ireland. Shirley is survived by her daughter-in-law, Donna Ireland of Ocala, Fla.; granddaughter, Sarah May and husband, Mike May, of Ocala, Fla.; and grandson, Jonathan Ireland and wife, Annette Ireland, and their son, Cameron of Richmond, Va. A private service will be held in Roanoke, Va. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all who wish to honor Shirley's life make a donation to First Baptist Church of Roanoke, 321 Marshall Ave., SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.
