He was a 1944 Graduate of William Penn High School, then joined the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the war he went to the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating in 1950. He was Commander of the submarine U.S.S. Grenadier. During his career he served at various U.S. Embassies. He retired as Captain in 1978.
He was a member of the Big Spring Presbyterian Church, Newville, PA, and played trombone in the Grafton, VT, and Shippensburg, PA town bands.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, three grandchildren, and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his sister Alice H. Schmidt.
