My son

Jeff, I never told anyone this until two days ago, but one Sunday evening after church in Michigan your sisters were out somewhere playing, Mom was in the house and I took a walk around the garden. I came back to the Patio, sat downand thanked the good Lord for all the blessings that he had given me. I also stated a thank you for three healthy daughters and commented that it would have been nice to have a son to raise and play ball with. But as Mom and I were 40 years old, I knew that was not to be. But I thanked the Lord anyway for all my blessings.

Then three months later, to our surprise, your mother was pregnant with you. I am thankful that you were the last child we had because your mother often said that if you were the first, you would have been the last.

I think back now too all the joy that you have brought us. To building a model railroad in the basement, to putting together thousands of legos, watching you play football, and growing up to be a young man. I enjoyed your middle and high school summers as you spent most of your free time riding with me in the company van in the four state areas. I had a lot of good times at the motels and swimming pools and just having you to keep me company on the long rides.

I can't imagine what went through your mind when you were sixteen and watched me die in the emergency room. God had other plans for me , but I do know that your concern for my well being changed after that.

After graduation, you went to work for the same company I worked for as summer position that lasted six months. You made me proud by doing the job that you did.

After my retirement, you moved to Kansas with us to help us remodel/rebuild our retirement home. Had it not been for you, we probably would not have been able to finish.

But the last five years, we have worked side-by-side remodeling our aunt's house, doing several jobs in the community. We had our differences at times, but in the last few years, you became not only my son, but my best friend.

I would like to say "thank You" for the grandson to remember you by.

No one will ever know why you did what you did. All I can do is thank the good Lord and ask that he have mercy on your soul and thank him for the last 25 years that we had. May God bless you.

Love Dad.
