Curtis Emmett Haley married Loretto Bolger on September 12, 1926 in Minocqua, Wisconsin. Together they had four children and twelve grandchildren. He was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and flew missions during WW II. After the war, he became an architect and drew plans for the City of Coral Gables, Florida located in the Miami metropolitan area.

Children: Curtis Wendell Haley - 173531903, Patricia Ann Haley Ellison - 203949879, Loretto Scott Haley Murphy and Mary Jane Haley O'Brien - 200638812.

Curtis E. Haley, Architect, Gables Community Leader


Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Curtis E. Haley, a Coral Gables architect since 1930 and active community leader, died Saturday of a heart attack in Coral Gables.


Mr. Haley lived with his wife, Loretta B., at 1315 Alegriano Ave., Coral Gables.


Born in Cordon, Kentucky, and reared in Henderson, Kentucky, Mr. Haley earned his degree in architecture at the University of Kentucky and Transylvania University.


He was a veteran of both World Wars and during World War II served as a navigator in the China, Burma and India Theater. He retired from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel in the 1950s.


Mr. Haley moved to Coral Gables in 1926. His architectural firm, Curtis E. Haley, AIA, at 214 Alhambra Circle, Coral Gables, has been in operation for more than 40 years.


The firm's most recent designs include the new Gables Plaza apartment building, across from the David William Hotel, and the Prahl Building, a high rise office structure located at the Ponce de Leon Boulevard traffic circle.


A genealogist for, and current president of the Florida State Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, Mr. Haley authored the book, "The Ancestor Hunting Kit," which was concerned with genealogy - the study of family ancestry.


An amateur astrologer, he was a member of the American Federation of Astrologers.


Mr. Haley was a member of the Blue Ribbon Committee of the City of Coral Gables, the Military of World Wars, the Coral Gables Country Club, the University of Miami Oldtimers Club, the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Pi Kappa Alpha, and the Founders Club of the University of Miami.


Listed in "Who's Who in the South and Southwest," Mr. Haley was the membership chairman and past director of the Florida Chapter of the AIA, a charter member of the Miami Aero Club, a charter president and member of the Coral Gables Association of Architects, a member and past vice president of the Coral Gables High Rise Apartment Advisory Board and a member and current chairman of the Coral Gables Board of Supervising Architects.


Survivors, besides his wife, include a son, Air Force Maj. Curtis Wendell, of West Lafayette, Indiana, three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Ellison, of Fort Lauderdale, Mrs. William Curtis Murphy II, of Laurel Springs, N.J. and Mrs. Mary Jane LeFiles, of Miami and 12 grandchildren.


Funeral arrangements, which are incomplete, are being handled by the Philbrick and Son Coral Gables Chapel.
