Shirley was born in Marion on April 17, 1938 to the late Ralph D. and Margaret A. (Dearth) Pinkerton. She passed away on June 26, 2019 in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Shirley was a 1956 graduate of Jefferson Township High School, Upland. She later attended Indiana University, Bloomington. She married Millard E. Ball in 1962. Mr. Ball preceded her in death on January 17, 1997. During her working years Shirley was employed for 24 years with the United States Social Security office and the Department of Workforce Development for 28 years and officially retired in 2017. In her free time she enjoyed camping, knitting and she was an accomplished seamstress. Shirley was not a fan of cooking and loved eating out with family and friends. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Shirley is survived by her son, Ronald E. (Ann Hays-Ball) Ball, Ossian; Larry (Billy) Ball, West Virgina; siblings, James E. Pinkerton, Marion; Jerry W. Pinkerton; Barbara A. Reasoner, Rochester, Indiana; sister-in-law, Darlene A. Pinkerton; two grandchildren, Cheyenne Ball, Wyoming and Savannah Ball, Colorado.

She is also preceded in death by her long time significant other, Morris R. “Dick” Crisp.

Visitation will be held from 3pm-4pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana. The funeral will be held at 4pm Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Jan Bunch officiating
