Carl George Powell, 78, of Amherst, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at his residence. He was the loving husband of Joan Booth Powell. Born on August 3, 1940, in Harrisburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Carl and Elva Powell. Carl served our country in the United States Air Force and retired from IBM as an engineer. Carl was a member of Forest Alliance Church, where he served as an Elder. He also enjoyed collecting guns and working on items from household appliances to lawnmowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elva Kowallis. Carl is survived by his wife, Joan Powell; son, Ray Gordineer and wife, Terri Jennings; daughters, Linda Dzyndra and husband, Borys and Nancy Tompkins and husband, Brion; grandchildren, Jason King and wife, Jennifer, Tiffany King and husband, Sylvain Milot, and Nadia DeMuth and husband, Jeremiah; great-grandchildren, Avery Corrigan, Griffin Corrigan, Skylar King, and Isabel Milot; sister, Margie Zinnamosca and husband, Marshall; brother-in-law, Jack Kowaliss; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. David Blackburn officiating. Interment will follow at Amherst Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16. Whitten Monelison Chapel is assisting the Powell family (929-5712).
