Mrs. Doris Taylor Chambers, 96, of Gulfport, Mississippi departed this life, Sunday, June 16, 2019.

Mrs. Chambers was a Mississippi Gulf Coast resident for more than 80 years. She became a member and was baptized at St. John Baptist Church, Gulfport. She served faithfully at St. John for over 60 years. She later joined, in Christian fellowship, as a member with the Bible Way Baptist Church, Gulfport.

Mrs. Chambers, who was affectionately called "Muh" gave light to the darkest of souls. Her spunky and sassy persona evoked something in others that gave way to love and laughter. She understood that along this journey called life we all, at some point, need each other and she was that person for many. She simply loved people and not only reared her grandchildren, but she often had many neighborhood children at her table for dinner and hanging around her home.

Muh was an amazing cook, more notably, baking, and she enjoyed doing so. Her love for plants and planting was incredible. Family members say that she had a green thumb. As they reminisce, they marvel at the irony of her love for plants. The same hands that brought life to plants and flower were the same hands that brought life to those who she met.

Muh's family gains strength from what they acknowledge, of Mrs. Chambers, as a life well lived. The scripture tells us that it is one man who plants, another man waters, but it is God who gives increase. Over the years, Muh has planted seeds in the lives of many and oftentimes, she has watered those seeds. As her family celebrates her life, they rejoice in seeing the increase that God has given.

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Rev. Emmett G. Chambers; both parents, Mr. Charles Taylor and Mrs. Lela Fairchild Taylor Ross; two step sons, Emmett Chambers, Jr., Calvin Chambers; seven brothers, Ozzie Johnson, Jewell Wade, Robert Taylor, James Taylor, her twin, Artis Taylor, Vernon Ross, Wilmer Wade; and five sisters, Mabel Washington, Beulah Bryant, Velma Newton, Pauline Grayer, Fannie Taylor.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, four daughters, Arlena Patterson Cincinatti, Ohio, Selma (Alvin) Boykin- Gulfport, Mississippi, Dorothy (Tommy) Evans- Gulfport, Mississippi, Brendo Fleming- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a step daughter, Golia Baker- Sacramento, California; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a few special friends, May Ann Barkley, Bertha "Bert" Ford, and Erenether Stewart; other relatives and friends.
