SHINNSTON — James E. “Mopy” Sturm, 85, of Gypsy, passed away at 11:45 p.m., Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Louis A. Johnson VAMC in Clarksburg.
He was born in Clarksburg, December 15, 1933, a son of the late Clarence Earl and Gladys Hissem Sturm.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Piperio Sturm, on September 1, 2009.
Surviving are one daughter, Dorena Trahan and her husband, Kevin, his grandson, James; his granddaughter, Elizabeth Gonzalez and her husband, Kevin; one great-grandson, Noah Gonzalez; one sister, Wilma Starkey; his sisters-in-law, Roseanna Pulice and Maria Pearman and his caregiver who was like another daughter, Joyce Sadler and her husband, Mike, of Gypsy, who went above and beyond in their care for him.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Spagnuolo.
Mr. Sturm was a veteran, having served with the United States Air Force.
He was formerly employed by Pittsburgh Plate, Ingersol Rand, Amerdyne, and the Harrison Power Station for 15 years.
He was a member of the Meuse-Argonne VFW Post 573, Clarksburg.
The family would like to thank the care givers at the West Virginia Veteran's Nursing Facility for the past three years of excellent care.
The family will receive friends at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 4,.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 5, 2019.
Entombment will be in the Shinnston Memorial Cemetery & Mausoleum.
The Perine Funeral Home is honored to serve the Sturm family.
