“THERE IS NO FAIR IN LIFE AND DEATH. IF IT WERE, NO GOOD MEN WOULD DIE YOUNG” Mitch Albom

Frederick (Freddy, Fred) G. Gray 53, of Vernon, CT passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019 following a long illness.

Fred, born on March 25, 1966 in Norwich, NY, was the son of G. Frederick and Barbara (Stone) Gray.

He grew up in Norwich and attended Norwich schools. In his youth, Fred excelled in all sports. However, wrestling, football, and baseball were his favorites. Later in life, Fred was an avid golfer and a diehard New York Yankees and Minnesota Vikings fan. Fred was very quick witted with a joke on his lips and a smile on his face.

Fred’s passions also encompassed his career. He spent decades in the communications industry where he held several supervisory positions and passed his knowledge on to the next generation of communication specialists.

Fred’s children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews were the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of Fred’s kind spirit, passion for sports, and zest for life will live on through them.

Fred often spoke about his sense of pride in knowing that his son Forrest willingly sacrificed his college campus experience to remain at home to help care for his ailing father while still working towards his masters degree.

Fred was predeceased by his mother Barbara in 1998.

He is survived by his ex-wife Tracy of Vernon, CT,
father G. Frederick and step mother Christine (Deprey) Gray of New Berlin,
his daughters Jennifer LaCoe (Christopher Schultz) of Buffalo, NY, Seydi Blake Warren (Ricky Warren) of North Norwich,
his son Forrest Gray of Vernon, CT,
brothers Timothy (Ruth Ann Walker-Gray) of East Syracuse, NY, Daniel (Sara) of Aurora, CO,
sister Mary Jane Riley of Wheat Ridge, CO,
granddaughters, Blayke Valentine, Chesnee and Paislee Warren and Harper Schultz,
nieces Tina (Myers) and Amanda (Hughes), Megan Walker-Gray,
and nephews Joseph Riley and Ryan Walker-Gray.

Calling hours for Fred will be held on Friday, July 12, from 12:00 -2:00 followed by a funeral service immediately after. The Rev. Dick Fliter will officiate.

Interment will take place following the funeral service at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich.

Family and friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 12-2 pm.
