James A. Oates James A. Oates, 45, of Blain Highway, Waverly, passed from this life Tuesday afternoon, January 27, 2004, in Adena Regional Medical Center, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born July 17, 1958, in Chillicothe, the son of James F. Oates, Jr. and Jeanette Burns Oates.

Surviving are his parents, of Chillicothe; his wife, Tracy L Carter Oates; maternal grandmother, Ruth Burns, Chillicothe; four sons, James Bradley and wife, Cheryl Oates, Chillicothe, Tristen Lyndon Carter, Jarred Franklyn Oates and Logan Tyler Oates; a daughter, Lindsey Jamesyn Oates, all of Waverly; a brother, Jeffery A. Oates and his wife, Julie and niece, Alyssia, Chillicothe; a sister, Jeri Schoch and husband, Mel and nieces, Katie Shoemaker and Kasey Shoemaker, Ashland, KY; sister-in-law, Robin Thompson and husband, Terry and nephews, Kevin and wife, Andrea Thompson, Zachary Thompson and Brady Thompson and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends, who will miss him greatly. His maternal grandfather, Clyde Burns and paternal grandparents, Frank and Esta Oates preceded him in death.

Jim was a charter member of the Sanddiggers Racing Team. One of his proudest achievements was conquering the Big Eliminator Hill and Gravelrama in his sand drag jeep. He was a graduate of Huntington High School and a former shift supervisor a Circle Plastic Products in Circleville. Along with racing, Jim enjoyed deer hunting and supporting his children's activities. A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the hour of service. Following cremation, committal will be held at the discretion of the family.
