While living in Auburn she met and married Otis Thomas. They moved to Columbus, Ohio to pursue a better life. To this union were born two children – Carl Lewis and Barbara Ann.
Viola was an active member of Ebenezer Full Gospel Baptist Church participating as a Deaconess and Usher for many years until her health began to fail her and she had to move to Texas to be cared for by her son and his family.
Preceded in death by her husband, Otis Thomas, her parents, Carey and Hattie Q. Evans and three brothers.
Viola is survived by her children, Carl Lewis Thomas (Denise), League City, Texas, Barbara Ann Thomas, Columbus, Ohio; her grandchildren, Latisha Thomas, Patricia Thomas, Patrick S. Covington (Kelly), Steven V. Covington, Justin L. Thomas (Lindsey), Drew C. Thomas (Evgeniya); 12 great-grandchildren; her brother, Roy L. Evans (Barbara); many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
