Married May 20, 1955 to Sylvia Gail Mc Cabe

Jack Ray Shell,79, passed away unexpectedly in his home in Belgrade on May 20, 2015, the day of his and his wife's 60th wedding anniversary.

Jack was born in Portland, Oregon on January 16, 1936 to C.P. Boots and Mildred Shell. As a young boy, Jack lived on a remote ranch along the Snake River, west of White Bird, Idaho, accessible only by boat or horseback. He grew up on ranches in Washington and Oregon, and graduated high school in Okanogan, Washington. It was there that he met and married Sylvia Gail McCabe on May 20, 1955.

Jack and Gail had their first child, Michael, in Tonasket, Washington before moving to the Flying D Ranch in Gallatin Gateway, Montana in 1958. They lived in the Stone House on the Gallatin River for 34 years. It was there that they raised their son and two daughter, Jaynee Rae and Judy Leann.

After leaving the Flying D Ranch, Jack and Gail lived a short time in Bozeman before Jack went to work for Buck Francis on the CA Ranch at Francis.

In 1996, Jack and Gail assumed the management of the Bar None Ranch on Sixteen Mile in Toston, Montana for Turner Enterprises, Inc. It was here that Jack and Gail finished out their careers, working at the ranch together for 19 years. After retiring on December 31, 2014, they moved to Belgrade to be closer to their daughters and their families.

The central focus in Jack's life was his walk with the Lord and his family. He provided a moral anchor and spiritual inspiration not only to his family but also those who knew him. Jack truly lived what he believed.

Jack will always be remembered and defined as a true cowboy-a way of life he cherished and embraced. He set a standard and example that many aspiring young cowboys looked up to and strived to emulate. In addition to his love of ranching, Jack enjoyed flying, skiing, golfing, shooting, leather work and rawhide braiding.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Larry Guy
Shell of Ontario, Oregon; his wife, Gail Shell of Belgrade; son, Mike (Betty) Shell of Butte; daughter Jaynee (John) Hansen of Bozeman; daughter Judy (Greg) Derrick of Toston; grandchildren, Tory (Angie) Covey, Johnny (Lacie) Covey, Marty (Kelli) Duncan, Jack Duncan, Christina (Alex) Bohanon, Terry Shell and Carl Shell; and great-grandchildren Madelyn Covey, Lizzy Covey, Seth Duncan, Maverick Duncan, William Bonahon and Harley Bohanon.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday May 25, at 2 PM at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation may be made to Jacob's Hope at www.jacobshope.com.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service www.dokkennelson.com.
