A celebration of Life service celebrating Sarah’s life will be conducted by Rev. Taylor Park assisted by Pastor Seth Stevens on Friday June 28, 2019 at 11:00 AM at First Evangelical Church located at 735 Ridge Lake Blvd Memphis, TN 38120. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services in the church sanctuary. Graveside Interment services will be conducted by Rev Bill Lowrey and Rev Alice Petersen of Ashville, NC at Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to First Evangelical Church in Memphis, The River Sparta located in Sparta, TN or a charity of the donor’s choice. Sarah was born on January 31, 1942 in Laurel, MS to Joseph and Sarah “Sadie” McInnis. She graduated in 1963 from Millsaps College in Jackson, MS and moved to Greenville, MS where she taught High School English until her marriage to David Allen of Jackson, MS, formerly of Birmingham, AL, on August 23, 1964. After their marriage in Laurel, Sarah was a social worker in Hattiesburg, MS while her husband attended the University of Southern Mississippi. After his graduation they moved to Memphis, TN where Sarah was a case worker with The Children’s Bureau in Memphis, TN. After receiving her Masters Degree in Counseling from Memphis State University she became a Senior English teacher & Senior Guidance Counselor for Evangelical Christian School in Memphis; Senior Guidance Counselor for West Memphis High School in Arkansas until her retirement.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years David Allen of Bartlett, TN; Daughters Kimberly Joyce (Dr. Chad) Griffin of Sparta, TN and Amy Leeanne Willingham of Germantown, TN; Son Jeremy Jordon Allen of Bartlett, TN; Grandchildren Samuel, Rachel, Daniel and Nathaniel Griffin; Margo, Amelia and Westin Willingham; Gavin and Grace Allen.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Billy Joe McInnis of Laurel, MS and her three sisters Bettye O’Brien of Corinth, MS; Linda Lowrey of Virginia; and Bonnie Peroyea of Pass Christian, MS.
