Gilbert Gene Thomas, 79, of North Platte passed away June 26, 2019 at Great Plains Health.

Gilbert was born on March 10, 1940 in Great Bend, Kansas to Alfred and Amelia L. (Duncan) Thomas.

He married Kathleen Huscher May 15, 1960 in Goodland, Kansas. Gilbert joined the United States Air Force in 1965, working as a machinist in Long Island, NY. After his discharge he worked for Rhoads Construction in Goodland for 45 years.

Gilbert loved animals of all kinds, was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting, and enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Kathie of Goodland, KS; son, Brent Thomas of North Platte; daughter, Kelsey (Mark) Schlichenmayer of North Platte; grandsons, Kalor (Jessica) Moore, and Phillip Schlichenmayer; granddaughter, Kelsey Thomas; great-grandson, Darrick Moore; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Maggie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Kyle A. Thomas; and a brother, David D. Thomas.

Cremation was chosen. Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2019 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with the Reverend Vidya Sagar Arikotla officiating. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
