Ruthene Marie Bailey Brown, 53, daughter of Howard William Bailey and Velma Lucille Boyd Bailey, was born Nov. 21, 1949, at Eunice. She died Feb. 3, 2003, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia after a long battle with cancer.

As a young girl, she attended Pine Flat School and graduated from Summersville High School in 1967.

She married Terry Lee Brown June 22, 1968. They had two children.

Mrs. Brown was saved at a young age and attended church throughout her life.

She was a teachers' aide, bookkeeper and secretary. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, sewing, cooking and spending time with her children and grandson.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

Surviving are her children, Lisa Chronister of Cabool and Travis Brown of Mountain Grove; her mother of Summersville; three brothers, Elmer Bailey of Eunice, Denver Bailey of Republic and Larry Bailey of Rogersville; six sisters, Vivian Yandell of Hartshorn, Lorene Vandivort of Houston, Arlene Su of Tipton, Jean Farrow and Virginia Wilbanks of Summersville and Marlene Gray of Lake Worth, Fla.; and one grandson.

Services were Feb. 8 at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Boyd officiating. Burial was in the Union Chapel Cemetery at Eunice.
