BRYAN EDWARD MORGAN, 85, beloved husband, uncle, and friend, son of James M. and Katie Bassell Morgan, died on June 2, 2004. He was born on January 15, 1919 in Lamesa, Texas and grew up in Shamrock. Bryan graduated from West Texas State University where he was president of the Tri Tau Fraternity.

He was employed in the petroleum industry for 42 years, the last 37 years with the Exxon Production Research group in Houston, Texas. His early career was primarily devoted to development and testing of oil-well cements. With G.K. Dumbauld, Bryan developed and patented lightweight cement slurries containing bentonite and a dispersant. These cements are still widely used by the industry. His later career was involved in research on and analyses of various types of oil-well logs. Bryan was the supervisor of the company's well logging and analysis schools which began in 1960 and trained hundreds of petroleum geologists in the interpretation and analysis of many types of oil-well logs. He was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the Society of Professional Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) and the American Petroleum Institute (API).

Bryan was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church, Houston, where he served as an usher, a deacon and an elder. He was an early member of the Couples Class, which organized in the late 1940's while Dr. Charles King was the pastor and is now the Fellowship Class in which he was active until the time of his death. He made friends with many wonderful people through his church and through his profession.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 4 brothers, and Carmel Lee Guinn Morgan, his first wife of 35 years. He is survived by Barbara Ann Blount Morgan, his wife of 28 years, and many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. They will always remember Uncle Bryan for his generosity and counsel.
