Mark Allen Avery, 71, of West Concord, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

He was born August 28, 1947 in Faribault, Minnesota the son of Lloyd and LaVonne (Pederson) Avery. He grew up in West Concord where he graduated from high school in 1966. Following his schooling, he worked for the Minnesota Highway Department. He married Vicky Hanson on July 29, 1967 in Sisseton, SD. The couple made their home in West Concord where they raised their family. Mark worked with his father at Avery Auto Parts, for Tom Avery Construction and Marty DeVries in Plainview. He then began his own company, Mark Avery Excavation, building dams, waterways and other soil conservation projects. Due to his health, he retired in 2000. In retirement, he worked for his sons at Avery Brothers Dirt Work.

Mark loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, following all their sporting events. He was proud to have donated a kidney in 1975 to his sister, Jean. He enjoyed construction, excavating, dirt work, the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, and his dogs. He had a quirky personality, a gentle spirit, was a deep thinker, a great listener and always supportive of his family and friends.

He was a member of the West Concord Church of Christ and most recently Community Celebration Church.

He is survived by his wife, Vicky Avery of West Concord: 4 children, Heidi (Anthony) Mueller of Ramsey and their 3 children, Stephanie Hokanson, Brady Mueller, Hunter (Hunter “HP”) Porter and their 2 children Adelaide and Lyle; Heather (Michael) Overson of Kasson and their daughter, Harley; Mark Anthony (Jamie) Avery of West Concord and their 4 children, Samantha Lippert, Anthony, Ashtyne and Austin Avery; Nathan (Erin) Avery of Wanamingo and his 2 children, Jordyn (Greysen) Deblaay and Rylan Avery; siblings, Charles (Connie) Avery of Clarks Grove, Paul (Julia) Avery of Monterey, LA, James (Linda) Avery of Owatonna, Karen (Larry) Lehmberg of West Concord, Kathy (Ray) Courson of West Concord and Joan Lowery of Rochester.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and LaVonne; in-laws, John and Elaine Hanson; sister, Jean Schoolfield and nephew, John Lowery, IV.

Visitation will be at Community Celebration Church, 27337 County Hwy 34, Kasson on Sunday from 3-6pm and on Monday from 10-11am. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 1, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Community Celebration Church with Pastor Steve Larson and Pastor Amy Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Concord Cemetery in Concord Township.
