Some records show birth as 9 Apr 1757, others as 5 Mar 1757. Born 5 March, baptized 9 April.
Married first (12 Oct 1780) to Winnifred Johnson and second on (15 Dec 1803) Elizabeth Woodson in Goochland, Virginia
St. James Northam Parish Register shows birth, baptism (5 Mar 1757), and first marriage.
Some family trees show him as the same Christopher Isbell born c1754, married an Elizabeth Harrison, and died 15 Sept 1811 in Surry Co, NC.

1786-89: Had an account at Wm. Winston's Store, Hanover County.
Settled in Amherst County before 1810.

Amherst County, 16 Sept 1833: Christopher Isbell made declarations to receive pension. The transcript shows all the places he served during the war.
The first tour he was a substitute for James Isbell of Albemarle.
The second he was a substitute for Jacob Mayo of Louisa, VA.
The third tour he was a substitute of William Isbell of Albemarle County.
The fourth tour, Fall 1780--drafted, served under Elisha Leak, marched to Richmond, joined John Woodson's regiement. Etc.
Witnesses included: William Isbell, age 82; Henry Isbell, age 71; Anthony Layne, age 74.
Veteran was pensioned at the rate of $81 per year starting March 4, 1831, for services as a private and a corporal in VA service for two years.

He served in the Virginia militia as a private then corporal, during the American Revolution; applied for a pension in Amherst, Virginia. It does not appear the pension was accepted at first application.
