Clarice Dixon Tyson Davis Oct. 4, 1923 - April 20, 2014 Clarice Dixon Tyson Davis, of Apex, NC, died peacefully Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 at home with her daughter Pam and surrounded by other loved ones. She was received into the waiting arms of her risen Lord and Savior after a courageous bout with prolonged illness. Clarice was born October 4, 1923 in her family home in Roseboro, NC, to Mittie Dixon (Underwood) Tyson and Claude B. Tyson. She was married June 26, 1943 to Dr. William Hersey Davis, Jr., a pediatrician who preceded her in death in 1999. She attended UNC-Greensboro (Womans' College) and resided in Winston-Salem with her husband for 40 years. There she was active in the community and worked for many years as office manager of her husband's practice. After his retirement, they moved to Chapel Hill where she became involved in college student ministry, Masters Swimming Group, and the Retired-Faculty Association of UNC. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and loving friend to many. Although she was widely acclaimed for her style and beauty, it was her kindness, compassion and indwelling grace that shone most radiantly. Her rich sense of humor, love of all creatures, joyful smile and sparkling presence will be deeply missed. Mrs. Davis is survived by her brother, C.B. Tyson and wife Charlotte of Cary, NC; sister Ann Tyson Turlington of Raleigh, NC; son William H. Davis III and wife Mary O. Davis of Naperville, IL; daughter Pamela Davis Leight and husband George S. Leight, MD of Apex, NC; son Jefferson Underwood Davis, DDS, MD and wife Suzanne M. Davis, Mdiv of Kathleen, GA; and eight grandchildren: Kristin Leight Wesley, MD (Dan) of Bryn Mawr, PA; Melanie Ann Leight, MD of Abingdon, VA; William Derek Leight, MD (Susan) of Bennington, NE; Jennifer Davis Lockhart, MS (Matt) of Charleston, SC; Mary Tyson Davis Bradshaw (Sean) of Naperville, IL; Lauren Davis Price, JD (David) of Greenville, SC; Kathryn Davis McTigue, MS (Nathan) of Port Aransas, TX; and Suzanne Louise Davis of Chapel Hill, NC; eight great-grandchildren, loving companion Howard Hubbard, of Emrald Isle, NC, and friend and caregiver Tanya Rogers of Raleigh, NC. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Chapel Hill, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
