Nancy E. W. Humphrey, 74 years old, of Farmers Branch, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2019. She was born in Dallas, Texas, on February 25, 1945, and grew up in Arlington, Texas, and Winnsboro, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, James Fort Wilson, and her mother, Estella “Tedda” Wilson (née Goodson). Nancy was the cherished wife of Irving Leslie Humphrey, III, MD, married on March 7, 1992, and beloved stepmother (fondly called Momlette) to Laurel Lee Humphrey, MD, and Heather Elaine Humphrey. She is survived by her husband and stepchildren, her dear sister Theresa L. “Tess” Swindle (née Wilson), her brother-in-law Gary Swindle and her three nieces: Carla Wiggs (née Swindle), her husband David and their children, Diana Tate (née Swindle), her husband Matthew and their children, and Paula Swindle. In 1967, Nancy received her Bachelor’s of Arts in Drama & Theatre Arts from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Nancy had a career as a domestic and international flight attendant for American Airlines for over 30 years. In her later years, she worked at Needlepoint This! in Dallas, Texas, and was known as a master needlepoint artist. Nancy had a passion for family genealogy, reading murder mysteries and working on needlepoint canvases. She was a revered member of several heritage societies. For the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), Nancy was an active member and served as registrar and treasurer. For the National Society of the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR), Nancy was an active member and served as registrar and treasurer of Prudence Alexander Chapter. Nancy was a member of the prestigious Jamestowne Society. She was also active member of the Colonial Dames of America, the United States Daughters of 1812, the Dames of the Court of Honor, and the National Society of the Sons & Daughters of the Pilgrims. A memorial celebrating Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday July 27, 2019, at 12 PM at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 7405 W Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX, 75225. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prudence Alexander Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (attention chapter treasurer: Linda Linscott), where members have created a teaching scholarship in Nancy’s name, or the National Kidney Foundation.
