Eudora — Mass of Christian Burial for Paul E. Gruber, 75, Eudora, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora. Burial will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Eudora. Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 of the American Legion will conduct military graveside honors.
Mr. Gruber died Friday, June 22, 2007, at Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born July 21, 1931, in Williamsburg, the son of William J. and Martha Bergerhaus Gruber.
Mr. Gruber served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and served as military police and honor guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C., President Harry S. Truman's airplane, the "Sacred Cow," the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. He was also a guard at an Okinawa prison camp.
He was a maintenance employee at Kansas University and at Hercules Inc. in De Soto.
Mr. Gruber was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Alford-Clarke Post 14, American Legion in Lawrence and Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora.
He married Anna Mae Katzfey on Nov. 27, 1954, in Eudora. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Martha Elizabeth Schleuder, Eudora; a brother, John, Eudora; a sister, Mary Kelly, Eudora; and two granddaughters, Marla and Elizabeth Schleuder.
A son, Richard Anthony, preceded him in death.
A parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary-Eudora Chapel.
The family suggests memorials to the Disabled American Veterans, sent in care of the mortuary.
