Helen Jean Race, 88, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, died Monday, January 13, 2014. Born August 5, 1925 in Canton, OH, daughter of the late Urban W. Weisent and the late Lucy Crum Weisent. She was a retired Licensed Optician, a member of OES and Rainbow Girls. Survived by her husband of 38 years, David Clarence Race; daughter, Janie (Clair) Jaberg ; two grandchildren, Lauren (Chris) Sigler all of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Julie (Ryan) Nowicki of Lakewood, OH. Additional family include Eileen Mariol, Renee (Ron) Carney, Jay (Dee) Mariol, Paula Bourquin, Skip (Karen) Weisent, Carl, Helen, Ronnie and Eddie Race. Jean was preceded in death by her first husband Paul Frederick Mariol. A special lady who loved her family, the beach, knitting and shopping with her granddaughters. She touched the hearts of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed and forever loved. Funeral will be Friday at 11:00am in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel. Burial in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Calling hours Thursday evening from 6-8pm.
