The daughter of the late William H. Newburn and Dessie (Pottorff) Newburn. Dorothy was born October 6, 1917 in Morgan County. On August 22, 1943 she wed Chester Orville "Bud" Asher, who passed away November 22, 2001.
Surivors include 12 cousins Homer, Marvin, Austin and Camden Pottorff, Erma Moody, Ima Stayton, Shirley Campbell, Ruth Johnson, Olive Cooksey, Dinah Cooper, Marlyn Johnson and Jane Lancaster. She was preceded in death by one infant brother.
Dorothy was a graduate of Martinsville High School with the class of 1935; then attended Central Normal College for 2 years prior to earning her bachelor's degree in educaion from Butler University in 1940. She loved teaching and was an elementary school teacher, retiring after 38 years of teaching in 1976.
She began her teaching career teaching 3rd and 4th grade in a one room schoolhouse, Ballengertown School in rural Martinsville. She then taught in Marion Co. for a short time at Lawrence Central before returning to Martinsville. She taught for many years at Central Elementary and Poston Road Elementary.
Dorothy was member of First Christian Church, Psi Chi Omega Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Indiana Teacher's Association. She enjoyed the outdoors and flower and vegetable gardening. She delighted in sharing her vegetable with friends and neighbors.
Services were entrusted to Neal and Summers Mortuary of Martinsville, Indiana.
