Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Rev. Jerry Schrick officiating. Burial in in Rock Island National Cemetery where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, Moline.
Nelson Gene Peterson was born August 20, 1923, in Moline, to Rudolph T. and Nellie (Nelson) Peterson. He graduated from Simpson College and served in the US Army in WW II in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe, earning several medals. He was a history teacher at Silvis Junior High School for 25 years, retiring in 1983. He was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church, a lifetime member of National Education Association, and a member of Modern Woodmen of America.
His is survived by cousins, Sylvia Maravelli of North Carolina, Kaye Strate of California, Susan Coopman of Moline, and Todd Nerdahl of Davenport, and their families.
