Burial here is presumed since his wife is buried here (confirmation via her death certificate), and several of their children are also buried here.

Son of Jonathan & Jane (Ivey) Fincher.

Married Laura Edna Key on 19 Nov 1876, in Haralson County, Georgia, where they were both born and raised. They remained there for several years, having their many children there, before moving West.

All, but two, of their children are linked below. The two children who cannot be located on FindaGrave at this time are:
Zona "Zonie" Everett (Fincher) Master - wife of Homer Riley Master, Sr. (1889-1964)
b. 7 Nov 1889, Haralson County, Georgia
d. 10 Oct 1957, Fresno, Fresno County, California

Carrie A. (Fincher) Gordon - wife of Guy Earl Gordon (1884-1951)
b. Feb 1896, Haralson County, Georgia
d. after 1940

There is an interesting story (or I should say, fact) concerning an additional (illegitimate) son likely fathered by Joseph. The son was Felix Kinn Deering, Sr., who was born on 16 May 1875, in Haralson County, GA; his mother was Frances "Fannie" Mae (Houston), and looking at the 1870 U.S. census reveals that both the Finchers (widowed Jane and her three youngest children) and Houstons were residing very close to each other in District 653.

DNA tests completed by several of Felix's descendants, including myself, confirm that we are indeed biological descendants of Joseph's parents, Jonathan & Jane Fincher. Furthermore, our test results show a very strong match between ourselves and Joseph's descendants, much stronger than any of his other male siblings. Nothing has yet been confirmed regarding this parentage, but I do lean strongly towards Joseph being Felix's biological father, given the above-mentioned DNA evidence.

I am a direct descendant of Felix's and thus, the Fincher line, although after Fannie married Tom Deering in 1880, Felix officially took the name Deering, and we have been known by this name ever since.

I may never know which brother is my real 4th great grandfather, but if anyone has any information regarding this, I would be happy to hear from you. Please send me a message via the edit tab. We have no ill will towards whomever is our real ancestor, but we would love to be able to finally know the truth.

Everyone makes errors in judgment during their life, and I am personally grateful that Felix was born, or I (and many, many others) wouldn't be here. :)
