Joshua D. Schmidt, 35 of Pittsboro, passed away unexpectedly in his home, in the early hours of June 24, 2019. Josh was born on September 21, 1983 in Indianapolis, Indiana to David A. and Sheree (Van Vlymen) Schmidt.

He was a graduate of Tri-West High School and earned his associate’s degree from Vincennes University. He was always an avid athlete and enjoyed softball, football, baseball, and power lifting. He had attended Corinth Church in Brownsburg.

Recently he had embarked on a career of serving others as a professional fire fighter with the Madison Township Fire Department. He was a well-loved community member and friend, and his passing will leave a significant hole in the Pittsboro community.

Survivors include his beloved son, Dawson; significant other, Lacey Dishong; parents, David (Tricia Sullivan) Schmidt and Sheree R. Schmidt; and maternal grandparents, Marvin and Catheryn Van Vlymen. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, David.

Friends and family will gather in the funeral home from 4 pm until 7 pm on Thursday, June 27. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, Friday, June 28 in the funeral home, where all are welcomed to gather from 10 am until the time of the funeral. Following the funeral service, he will be laid to rest with full firefighter honors in the Lizton K of P Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts are encouraged to his son for his future care. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
