Clifford Earl (C. E.) Barnett, age 99, passed away from this life into the arms of his Savior on June 23, 2019.

He was born on January 26, 1920 in the Shiloh Community near Franklin, Texas. C. E. was the eighth and final child of Vera Mae (Gibbs) and Levi Jackson Barnett. Growing up on the family farm during the depression he quickly learned the value and necessity of hard work.

In 1939 he left the farm to drive delivery vehicles for several dairies in Huntsville, Texas. From there he moved to League City where he worked in the Houston shipyard. When World War II broke out C. E. joined the Merchant Marines and served in the Pacific theater until the end of the war. Upon his return from the war C. E. answered the call to preach while attending First Baptist Church, Houston, Texas. He also met and married Pauline Hartley.

With only an 8th grade education he enrolled in East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, Texas in the fall of 1948 along with his twin brother, Clifton, in order to prepare himself for the ministry graduating in 1951. For the next seven decades C. E. pastored churches in north, south and east Texas including Marshall, Linden, Atlanta, Robstown, Corpus Christi, George West, Bryan, North Zulch, Lake Limestone and Franklin.

He also served as Madison County Farm Bureau Insurance Agent from 1970 to 1985. He married Opal K. Martin on December 25, 1992. They continued in ministry until his last pastorate at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

C. E. was preceded in death by his parents, Vera Mae (Gibbs) and Levi Jackson Barnett; the mother of his children, Pauline Barnett; sisters, Jewell Moore, Opal Moore, Ruth Moore; and brothers, Walter, Roy. Lynn and Clifton.

He is survived by his wife, Opal K. Barnett; son, Clifford Lee Barnett and wife, Leslie of Panorama Village; daughter, Paula Kay Myers of Madisonville; grandchildren, Jonathan Myers and wife, Laura and Noelle Peters and husband, Ryan; and great-granddaughter, Hazel Peters. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Linda Rawls and Kathy Gillam; and numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin, Texas on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery outside of Franklin, Texas.
