Evelyn Venya Inman was born on November 7, 1937 in Bethel, NC to John Inman and Mae Ann Talley Inman.
Her father died of tuberculosis when Evelyn was only 2 years old. Her mother then married Alfred Hightower in 1942. Together, Mae and Alfred combined for over 15 children.
Born and raised into poverty, Evelyn overcame a lot of struggles throughout her 70 year life, and they weren't just financial.
Evelyn married Orse Junior Hampton in 1953 and together they had 5 children, Hiawatha, Doug, Sharon, Rick and Kathy.
Evelyn loved her family more than anything, and her love of her family went far beyond just those living. She spent many, many hours researching her ancestry and genealogy. She even managed to find a long-lost twin sister completely on her own and without the age of the Internet.
She was a very loving, caring and protective mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. And she was a peace maker, who always wanted to bring an olive branch to any disagreement. She was a godly woman and she enjoyed reading the scriptures.
Evelyn was a living and walking example of love, protection and forgiveness. These three attributes all combined to create a humble and kind soul that would give you anything of hers that you complimented. She was notorious for giving anything to you that you said you liked, even if she had to stick it in your pocket or in your car when you weren't looking. She lived on a very modest fixed income in her later years but she never went without, unless someone else needed something; then she would go without anything to give to them what she could afford. Material items and money had no value compared to her love of her family. Her laugh was contagious and her smile could warm your heart.
No one who knew Evelyn will ever forget her. She holds a special place in the hearts of all who knew her, and even though her intentions could sometimes be misunderstood by others she always meant well, and there's no denying that. She was always concerned for everyone she loved, and sometimes that concern for them could be mistaken as being too untrusting of others, outside the blood family. But her intentions were always pure and in a loving concern for those who she never wanted to see get hurt.
She had a big heart and a generous giving spirit.
And while she never spent a day of her life with a household income above poverty level, she lived a wonderful, happy and contented life. Never having any lust or covetousness for a single thing.
She was always content with things being as simple as she was.
Sadly, Evelyn was taken from us all far too soon and in perfect health when she died from injuries sustained in a car accident in Murphy, NC, trying to visit other members of her extended family, but she died proving she still had more love to give other people whom she barely knew. Because they were her family, and family was the most important thing to her to the point she lost her life trying to see them.
