May 12, 1962 - May 31, 2019
Sandy was the sixth of twelve children born May 12, 1962 to the proud parents of Jack and Laura Johnson who preceded him in death; Jack in 1987 and Laura in 1998.
At an early age, Sandy joined Beech Hill Baptist Church where he was a long time member. He attended Pineview High School where he graduated in 1980, and then attended Grambling State University. Sandy worked at Walmart in Homer for a short period of time before getting his long time job at Ludlow, now known as Berry Global, where he spent 31 years.
Sandy was always a joy to be around. He had a laugh that was contagious, a personality that everyone loved, a smile that was always genuine, and a big heart that let you know he cared.
Sandy was a hard worker and a real country boy. He loved the simple things in life, and he carried on the legacy of his father, Jack with the love of hunting, fishing, farming, raising cattle, horses, and prize hunting dogs, as well as growing some of the best greens you could find in North Louisiana. Sandy loved showing off his good country cooking using some of his mother’s favorite recipes; cabbage and hot water corn bread were his favorite.
Sandy was briefly married to Retha Winzer and to this union they gave birth to a son, Tyler Johnson. Sandy was also blessed to have three other beautiful children: Brittany Johnson who preceded him in death, Quincey Johnson (wife), Oklahoma, China Johnson, Monroe, LA, and one granddaughter, A’Dore Johnson, daughter of Quincey.
Sandy was blessed to have 11 siblings, eight of which to cherish his memories: Derry Johnson (Freddie), Arlington, TX; Dennis Johnson (Vevelyn), Homer, LA; Barbara Johnson-Caldwell (Tyrone), Memphis, TN; Travis Johnson, Princeton, LA; Stanley Johnson (Marilyn), Lisbon, LA; Stacy Johnson (Lisa), Grambling, LA; Carla Johnson-Thomas (Corey), Forney, TX; Todd Johnson (Doris), Forney, TX; Sandy had three other siblings that preceded him in death: Opal Johnson-Griffin, Ricky Johnson, and Valerie Johnson-Frazier.
Sandy also leaves a loving group of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, co-workers, and hunting buddies to cherish his memory. He will truly be missed.
