Funeral services for Ms. Vickie M. Walker will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2007, at St. Rest Baptist Church, Minden. Burial will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery, Minden, under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held today, June 22.
Mrs. Walker was born on September 18, 1957, and was raised by her mother who instilled the love of the Lord in her life.
Ms. Walker gave her life at an early age and became a member of St. Rest Baptist Church where she attended Sunday school, served on the Usher Board and was a member of the choir.
Initially she pursued a career at Grambling State University to become an educator, but before completing her degree she realized that her true love was with caring for the sick. She worked in the nursing profession until her health would not allow her to anymore.
She is survived by her special friend and companion of many years, James Sterling; and four daughters, Tenisha, Jasmine, Brittany and Amber.
She is also survived by her mother, Verna Walker; two sisters, Terry Walker of Dallas, Texas; and Kay Caesar and husband Terry of Lake Charles; an aunt, Irene Day; four nieces, Dawn Duncan and husband Kevin of Virginia Beach, Va., Damita Braswell and husband Quinton of Shreveport, Honey and husband Jeremy of Everett, Wash., and Whitney Brown; and one nephews, Warren Cary Jr. and wife Latonia of Lake Charles.
Also remembering their aunt are her great-nieces and nephews, Kayla Christopher, Bryanna Khalil, Kyanndi, Kourtney, Ashley, Barbara, Xaiver, Travon and Warren III; and a host of cousins and friends.
