Mrs. Dolores Rickards West of Millsboro, DE passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Atlantic Shores Nursing Home. She was 89 years old.
Dolores was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 29, 1929 to the late John L. and Elizabeth Warden Rickards. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by five siblings, Ada Bunting, Virginia Hitchens, Ellison Rickards, Edna Hudson and Donald Rickards.
Dolores married Roland E. West on June 30, 1951 and from that union had two children.
She served as Deputy Recorder of Deeds for Sussex County and Co-farmed with her husband until 1953. She loved vegetable and flowers gardening, collecting glassware, and spending time with her family especially with her grandchildren. Dolores will be remembered as a kind and caring person who put others needs ahead of herself. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Roland E. West of Millsboro, DE, a daughter Cheryl Roach of Millsboro, DE and a son Richard West and his wife Dianna of Millsboro, DE. Dolores also leaves behind five grandchildren: Christine Anderson (Craig) Jennifer Leonard (Ty) Charlene Brown (Kyle), D.J. Roach, and Shelley Roach as well as six great grandchildren: Kiersten, Abrielle, Weston, Asher, Anberlin and Roxanne. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE, 19966, where friends may call from 10 AM – 12 Noon for viewing and visitation. Burial will follow in Millsboro Cemetery.
