John William Jones was born in Rutherford, North Carolina in 1784 and is found in the Mississippi Territory (Madison County, Alabama) as early as 1809. He married Elizabeth Eddy (daughter of Lloyd Aday and Margaret Riddle) on March 5, 1815 . They had at least 11 children. They removed to Scott County, Arkansas in about the year 1844 and lived there the remainder of their lives.
John was given bounty land in Scott County, Arkansas for his service in the War of 1812, but sold this land to Jackson Hon.
He purchased land On March 1, 1860. The final papers were signed for the purchase of land in the name of John William Jones. This land was described as being in "the Southeast quarter of the Southeast quarter of Section twenty-six of Township Three North of Range Twenty six West in the District of Lands subject to sale at Clarksville, Arkansas, containing forty acres." I believe this land is situated next door to Parks Cemetery.
John William Jones died on an unknown date in 1860 in Scott County Arkansas. Elizabeth is found as a widow in the 1860 census, which was enumerated between June 8 and August 17, 1860. It would appear that John died between March and the time Elizabeth's census was enumerated. It may be that by the time the land documents were signed John had already died.
I have found no marker for John but the preponderance of information tells me that he is buried at Parks Cemetery at Nola. Many of his descendants are also buried at Parks Cemetery.
