Memorial Graveside Services for Lee W. Drake will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Nebraska with Father Thomas Lux officiating.

Leslie Walter “Lee” Drake, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, died on Friday, June 21, 2019, at Phelps Memorial Medical Center in Holdrege. Lee was born January 18, 1936 on the family farm of rural Harlan County, Nebraska, the fifth of six children of Walter Douglas and Viva Cora (Drummond) Drake.

Lee attended and graduated school at Mascot, Nebraska. He then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kearney State Teacher’s College. He joined the National Guard. Lee taught at various schools, until moving to Hebron in 1968, where he raised his two sons Douglas (Doug) and Charles (Chuck) and taught for many years. The students he taught appreciated his sense of humor. He left an unforgettable impression on all.

All that knew Lee would say, in all his conversations of how proud he was of his boys and their accomplishments. He spent his life raising and supporting them. When Lee wasn’t talking about his sons, he was letting all know of his grandsons Derek, Drew and Daniel Drake.

Lee had a green thumb and raised gardens that fed his family and many others due to his generosity. He was well known for raising beautiful flowers, vegetables, and a variety of fruit trees. Later he raised chickens, ducks, geese, goats, occasionally a steer and even a family of raccoons found on the farm in Oxford.

Lee was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege and active in the Knights of Columbus. Other hobbies of Lee’s include reading, walking, fishing, cutting firewood, and spoiling his dogs.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings: Betty, Marjorie, Douglas, and Lois Jean.

He is survived by his two sons: Doug Drake and his wife Amy of Bloomington, Minnesota; Chuck Drake and his wife Julie of Broken Bow, Nebraska; three grandsons: Derek, Drew, and Daniel Drake; one sister; Mary Louise and her husband Willis of Ogallala, Nebraska and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family has honored his wish for cremation.
