Harvey McCallen died on Tuesday at his home in Washingtonville, of apoplexy and paralysis, aged 75 years. Deceased was born in Walden. At the outbreak of the Civil War he was enlisted in the 56th NY V, from which he was transferred to a cavalry regiment, and served throughout the war. For many years he has been a resident of Washingtonville. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and was a charter member of Isaac Nicoll Post, G.A.R.
On March 6, 1863, he was married to Martha L. Scofield, who survives him. He is also survived by an adopted daughter, Minnie, wife of Rev. John T. Gardiner.
Suggested edit: From the NYS Adj.-Gen.'s report on the 4th NY Provisional Cavalry: "McCOLLIN [sic], HARVEY — Age, 29 years. Enlisted, October 16, 1861, at Newburgh; mustered in as private, Co. C, First [NY] Mounted Rifles, October 16, 1861, to serve three years; re-enlisted, January 1, 1864; designation of regiment changed to Fourth Provisional Cavalry, September 6, 1865; mustered out with company, November 29, 1865." Not located on the roster of the 56th NYSV or 7th NYS Cavalry.
