Katherine Sarah Sternberg, 94, of Traer, died Tuesday, November 24, at Sunrise Hill Care Center, Traer, following an extended illness. She was born August 15, 1915, in Southerlin, Oregon, daughter of Fred and Helen Marriman Safley. She married Lester Sternberg on July 9, 1937, on the family farm. He died in May 1967.
Mrs. Sternberg graduated from Traer High School in 1933. She and her husband farmed north of Traer, then south of Traer. She taught school at Baker's Grove Country School for two years and was a member of Traer United Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by three sons, John (Pam) of Newton, Jim (Sherry) of Avon Park, Florida, and Richard (Jean) of Roland; a daughter, Mary Kay Young of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother Jack Safley; a sister, Marion Janssen; and a grandson.
Services are at1 p.m. Monday at United Presbyterian Church, with burial in Buckingham Cemetery, both in Traer. Public visitation from 11 a.m. until services Monday at the church. Overton Funeral Home, Traer, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Traer United Presbyterian Church.
