John William Heim was born July 8, 1944, in Milwaukee, the son of Alfred and Lorraine (Ashworth) Heim. He was raised in Milwaukee and attended his grade school years at St. Michael’s School. John then attended Boys Technology and Trade School, where he received his high school diploma and training in pipefitting. John joined the U.S. Navy on July 15, 1963, and served two tours during the Vietnam War. While in service, John earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged on June 20, 1967. John returned to Milwaukee, where he began work with Briggs and Stratton as a pipefitter. On Nov. 18, 1967, John was joined in marriage to Sheron Lee Rosensprung at St. Michael Catholic Church in Milwaukee. John continued his work with Briggs and Stratton until his retirement in 1997. After his retirement, John and Sheron moved to Couderay, to their home on the Chippewa Flowage. John worked part-time with St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward and then took another part-time position with Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel Funeral Home in Hayward. John was a past member of the American Legion, St. Michael’s Alumni Association and the Hayward Serenity Club, where he volunteered caretaking the facility. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating on the flowage, feeding the birds in his backyard and was an avid Milwaukee Brewer and Green Bay Packer fan. John celebrated 43 years and one day of sobriety.
John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sheron; daughter, Charlotte (David) Noe of Waukesha; son, John (Ann) Heim Jr. of Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Lorraine, Kevin, Alexandria and Ava; and six nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Lorraine.
