Graveside funeral services for Hugh Mecom “Mickey” Alford age 79 of Eros, LA and formerly of Columbia will be held 1:00 PM Saturday June 22, 2019 at the Columbia Hill Cemetery under direction of Riser & Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Mickey as he was known by his friends passed away on June 19, 2019 at his residence in Eros following an extended illness. He was born on August 31, 1939 in Columbia to Guy H. Alford and Margaret Lynn Mecom Alford. His parents preceded him in death.

Mr. Alfords family represent a historical span of time here in Caldwell Parish. The Mecom Family was one of the founding families here in the Columbia and Caldwell Parish area. His father was a pharmacist and owned and operated Alford Drug where local residents frequented the soda fountain. His father also served as state representative for Caldwell Parish. His mother was the first female mayor in the State of Louisiana having served as the mayor of Columbia, and was a Graduate of Columbia High School and she herself became a teacher who was loved and respected by all. Mickey grew up in a family that served their community and so in turn he tried to help those around him.

Left to cherish his memory are three dear friends who chose to help Mickey in his latter years as he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Willie Frances Gibson Alford.

His friends: Melissa Anne Johnston of West Monroe, Richard Burdette of West Monroe and Terri Wood of West Monroe.
