LB "Pete" Wright went to be with the Lord on June 12, 2019, at home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur "Peck" Wright and Louise Wright; and his brother, Tommy Wright. Pete was a member of the First Christian Church from a very young age. He served as an elder. Pete was a 1956 graduate of George Wythe High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He had many jobs, Radford Arsenal, a Christian bookstore, and his favorite, driving the school and activity bus. Pete also spent several years doing carpentry work on the family home. Pete was loved by many of the local athletes. He also was an avid follower of football. He loved his Alma Mater, George Wythe, where he played wingback on the football team. Throughout fall, he could be found at Friday night football games. His sons and grandsons continue to do so as well. Pete was also a fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies. Pete leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Ethel Wright; his two sons and spouses, Barry Wright and Mary, and Eric Wright and Teresa; and his grandchildren, Haylee, Hayden, JB, and Allen Wright. In addition, a great-grandbaby is expected in September by JB and Allison.
