John Robert Weaver American Artist John Robert (Bob) Weaver was born September 9, l935 in Stillwell Kansas to Howard Weaver and Ruby (Anderson) Weaver. John passed away July 2, 2018 in Lincoln, Nebraska. This was his home for the past 38 years. At the early age of 4 John showed a talent for Art. At the age of 6 he was drawing cartoons and by the age of 10 he was entering contests in various magazines. Although he did not win the big prize, this did not deter from his passion of art. In school he was torn between Art and Sports but continued on with Art. By the age of 19 he was drawing cartoons for the Missouri Conservation Magazine. John entered the Kansas City Art Institute where he arned his BFA Degree and was written up in the Kansas City Star on several occasions. He graduated 6 out of the top 10. In his first semester at the University of Nebraska he received the Vreeland Award in Art and the Tamarind Lithography Fellowship from the University of New Mexico. He received his M,F.A. degree from University of Nebraska. John believed in his Art and sacrificed so much in his life for One Man Shows and painting for Commissions while doing other jobs so he could continue with his dream. Some of his paintings were very large like the one of Coach Devaney of Nebraska, Missouri Pacific Railroad Engine, Earnest Lied of the Lied Center in Lincoln and the last painting was a Masterpiece that he finished last year. John received many awards and the collections of his work are in Museums all over the United States, including the Albrecht Gallery in St. Joseph to the U. S. Embassy in Washington D.C. The last display of his art in public was on his 70th Birthday at the Sheldon Museum in Lincoln and the Mona Museum in Kearney, Nebraska which ran concurrently. This was the first time this has happened in the State of Nebraska. A book was published with most of his art to commemorate this event. The book is titled : "John Robert Weaver American Artist." John had great talent for art in various forms. This was his life and his passion. He will be missed not only by the Museums but by all the individuals who knew him. John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Sarah Weaver. He leaves his sister Taleta(Terri) Wesner(Glen), Indep., MO, many cousins and friends.
