Obituary

Norman Dykes, 63, of La Junta, a former Colorado Springs resident, died Thursday in a La Junta hospital after a long illness. He was a heavy equipment operator and had worked for Floyd's Backhow Service. Services will be at 1 p.m. At Ustick Donaldson Funeral Home, 305 N. Eighth St., Rocky Ford, with the Rev. Carl Rudy officiating. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Rocky Ford. Mr. Dykes was born March 24, 1925, in Little Rock, Ark. He is survived by his parents, Seaman and Frona Dykes of Manzanola. Mr. Dykes lived in Colorado Springs from 1972 until moving to La Junta in 1986. He served in the Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Mr. Dykes was a member of Operating Engineers Local 9. He was married May 13, 1945, in garden City, Kan., to Mildred Lewis, who survives and lives in Colorado Springs. In addition to his iwfe and parents, Mr. Dykes is surivived by a son, Gene of Houston,; a daughter, Wanda McCoy of Colorado Springs; two brothers, Nathan and Bill, both of Manzanola; four sisters, Estalie Evans, of Penrose and Edna Spencer, Edith Blinn and Senith Kuhn, all of Phoenix, Ariz., and six grandchildren. Mr. Dykes was preceded in death by a son, Lary; a daughter, Brenda; and a bother, Hobart. Memorial contributions may be made to Mrs. Mildred Dykes, 2840 S.
