Rex M. Rice, age 85 of Sheridan, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.

If you needed a good laugh, Rex always had a joke for you. He was a very talented man who excelled in most everything he did. Rex enjoyed many hobbies throughout his lifetime, including snowmobiling, sailing in the Grand Traverse area, woodcarving, and woodworking where he made beautiful duck decoys, Santa’s, and other birds. He was also a talented musician and loved playing his banjos and harmonicas. For many years, Rex played with some of his friends in a group called “Boy’s from Amsden and Pat”. Rex retired as the President of Sidney State Bank in 1992 and served on the bank’s Board of Directors until 2013. He graduated from Edmore High School and also attended the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. Rex was also a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sidney.

Surviving Rex is his wife of 62 years, Kathy (Petersen) Rice; daughter, Nancy Devereaux of Jackson; daughter-in-law, Tammy (Derrick) Fickle of Sheridan; grandchildren, Logan Devereaux of Jackson; Andrew DesJardins of Greenville; Ashley Kellams of Gowen and a sister-in-law, Jude Rice of Midland.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Louis & Artha (Mitchell) Rice; son, Scott Rice and his brother, Larry Rice.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 6 – 8 PM at the Simpson Family Funeral Home in Sheridan (246 S. Main Street).

Memorial services for Rex are being held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 11 AM at the Faith Lutheran Church in Sidney (2957 S. Grow Road). Final inurnment will be at North Sidney Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks you direct donations to either the North Sidney Cemetery Association, or Heritage Village, or White Pine Library, or the charity of your choice.
