Jacqueline (Jackie) Campbell Martin
September 13, 1932 - June 18, 2019

Jacqueline (Jackie) Campbell Martin passed away peacefully in her Mechanicsville home on June 18, 2019, after a long-fought battle with Alzheimer’s. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marion Campbell; her brother, Lt. Colonel Thomas Hartley Stone; sister, Marion Chanley Snyder; and two cherished pre-term, twin daughters, Mary and Anne Martin. Born on September 13, 1932 in Berwick, Pennsylvania, Jackie was the older daughter of John and Marion. As a young child, her family moved to Virginia, where her father was a music teacher in both private and public schools, and from whom Jackie gained her love for music. After attending John Marshall High School, she began her career at Life Insurance Company of Virginia, followed by the State Department of Labor. She transitioned to medical office administration, where she helped to manage the office of Dr. Martin Markowitz for many years, subsequently closing the office when Dr. Mark passed away. She found her way to Dermatology Associates, where she eventually retired. In addition to her many years of professional service, Jackie expressed her enthusiasm for the political process by often volunteering at the election polls. Jackie and Curtis Ralph Martin were married in November of 1952 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and after a short time, found their church family of over 50 years with The Church of the Epiphany (Episcopal). Jackie could be found volunteering for many church functions, most notably the annual family retreat, where she and Ralph were heavily involved in the event planning and fun entertainment. Jackie is survived by her loving husband of over 66 years; sister, Patricia Groome (Billy); daughter, Judy Green (Dr. Raymond Green); son, John Martin (Suzanne); daughter, Leslie Shakespeare; six grandchildren, Hillary Crenshaw (Kevin), Andrew Green (Mallory), Matthew Martin (Heather), Travis Martin, Benjamin Martin, Adam Lyons; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to her dedicated caregivers over the years, Ronnie Ferraiolo, who helped us to navigate the early stages of Alzheimer’s; niece, Kathy Groome for the special bond she developed with Jackie throughout her illness; and Debbie Crouch for her expertise and most importantly, for her caring heart and hands right up to the end. In addition to Jackie’s passion for music and her family, she had a deep love for animals and her many longtime friends. f still with us today, she would tell you, “family, friends, and loving pets are our greatest gifts on this earth.” There will be a viewing from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, at Bliley’s, 8510 Staples Mill Road, with a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, at Westhampton Memorial Park, Patterson Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contribution considerations be made for the Greater Richmond Chapter, Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060 or to Church of The Epiphany, 8000 Hermitage Road, Richmond, Va. 23228.
