Actor, Director. He is remembered for being in the American film industry for five decades with over thirty films, starting in the silent movie era with films such as “Behind two Guns” in 1924 and “Flying Hoof” in 1925. In the 1930 Academy Award winning film “All Quiet on the Western Front,” he doubled for Slim Summerville's role. He was introduced to the industry as an actor but move behind the camera with the “talkie” films to the capacities of producer, production manager and assistant director. In 1935 he is known for directing the first original “Gunsmoke.” He had another turn at assistant directing in the 1955 film, “Double Jeopardy.” He was production manager for the 1955 film “The Bonnie Parker Story” starring Dorothy Provine. He was production manager a several movies starring Vincent Price including in 1961 “Master of the World” and “The Pit and the Pendulum,” in 1962 “Tales of Horror,” in 1963 “The Raven.” Also in 1963 he was associate producer for a SciFi film “The Man with the Xray Eyes,” which was released at the Trieste International Science Fiction Film Festival and eventually by 1965 was seen around the world. Born Bartlett Anderson Carre, he was a handsome, gangly man at 6'4” and often played the role of a cowboy. In his younger years, he was known to do his own stunts and was an honorary member of the Stuntman Association. From the early 1930s to his death he suffered from respiratory problems. He was married to Isabell Ulric but the couple had no children. An article, “Bartlett A. Carr” was published in 1971 in “Variety Magazine.”
