Vocalist. Part of the pop vocal trio The Lettermen who rose in popularity in the 1960's. The Lettermen was founded in the late 1950's by lead singer Tony Batula, Mike Barnett, and Dick Stewart. After performing in Las Vegas, Nevada and Miami Beach, Florida and several bandmember changes, Batula was joined by Jim Pike and Bob Engemann. They signed with Capitol Records in 1961 and released the single "The Way You Look Tonight " which rose to number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart. Their next two hits, "When I Fall In Love" and "Theme From a Summer Place" reached the top ten on the music charts. Recording songs like the medley "Goin' Out of My Head/Can't Take My Eyes Off of You," "Put Your Head On My Shoulder," and "Hurt So Bad" made them one of the most popular groups of the 1960's.
