Annie “Sue” Marie Gilbert, 81, of Anahuac, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, in Dayton, Texas. She was born on November 13, 1937, in Laurel, Mississippi to the late Luther and Allie Burger Holloway. Sue graduated from George S. Gardiner High School in Laurel, Mississippi, class of 1955.

Sue was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family and her grandchildren. Sue pursued many interests, some of which included crocheting and baking. She had taken some cake decorating classes and designed several wedding cakes. Sue was an avid fisherman who enjoyed fishing on the bay from her house in Anahuac. She was also a huge fan of playing computer games through the Pogo site whether it was puzzles, cards, word or board games. Sue enjoyed them all no matter what they were.

Sue and her husband Kenneth were active members with the American Legion Post 0104 in Anahuac and the VFW Post in Winnie. She was also awarded the Distinguished Supporter Certificate by the World War II Veterans Committee for honoring the heroes and heroism of America’s World War II veterans since 2011.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings Edna Hatten, Luke Holloway, and Bobby Holloway.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 62 years, Kenneth Gilbert; her sons John Gilbert and wife Julia of Crosby and Ken Gilbert and wife Kathy of Houston; their grandchildren Jennifer Jacobson and husband Matt, Denise Roberts and husband Greg, Elaine Gilbert, Dwain Gilbert and wife Alicia, Bryan Gilbert and wife Amy and Kim Taylor and husband Jay; her great-grandchildren Ally, Lucas, Asher, Grayson, Emmi Kate and Grant; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 11am on Saturday, June 22, 2019, in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home, 1201 S. Main Street in Anahuac. A funeral service will begin at 12pm, with Rev Jeff Holloway officiating. A graveside service and committal will immediately follow in Anahuac Cemetery.
