Russell David “Dave” Reid, Jr. died peacefully on June 5th after a long journey with Parkinson’s disease and Vascular Dementia.

Born July 31, 1932 in Clifton Forge, VA, he was the son of the late Grace Johnson Reid, and Russell D. Reid, Sr. After graduating from Clifton Forge High School, he joined the US Army where he proudly served during the Korean War.

He returned home to earn a doctorate degree in Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic University, and worked in the engineering field and taught at EC Glass High School before becoming a college professor. “Mr. Reid” retired as Professor Emeritus from Central Virginia Community College where he taught automotive and mechanical engineering, as well as welding and metal fabrication for more than 40 years. After retiring he continued teaching courses for ASE Certification and gun safety for the NRA.

He was an avid outdoorsman and an enthusiastic fan of the VA Tech Hokies and Washington Redskins. He was a past member of the Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge, and a longtime member of Thomas Road Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Smith Reid, stepson Allison Losh, daughter Grace Verderosa, and her husband John, his sister Mary Ann Laughlin and her husband Jim. He is also survived by his brother in law Elton Johnson (wife Faye), sister in law Nancy Baker (and husband Richard), and grandson Tyler. In addition, he is survived by countless nieces, nephews, and the extended Trawick family, all of whom he adored. He is predeceased by his first wife Barbara Johnson Reid, his sister Betty Jo Smith, brother in law Buddy Smith, and step-son Brady Losh.

The family would especially like to thank everyone at Bentley Commons, and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for the unparalleled care and compassion they have continually provided.
