Rev. Marvin “Buddy” Phillips, age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at his home surrounded by his beloved family.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Phillips; children Connie (Gary) Jackson, and Mark (Kay) Phillips; grandchildren Emily (Chris Whitehead) Morgan, and Sydney Phillips; brother, Rev. Ted (Nita) Phillips, and special friend and caregiver Pat Gudger. He was preceded in death by his parents Basil and Dixie Phillips; brothers Carl, Bob, Arlis, and George, and sister Jewel.

He was ordained into the gospel ministry at his home church, Helton Springs, where he later served as Pastor. He continued to preach the gospel and share the love and devotion of Christ for 48 years while he pastored at Deep Springs, White Oak Grove, Barnards Grove, Narrow Valley, and Central Point Baptist Churches.

Marvin proudly served his country in the Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return, he served his community as a caring neighbor and mentor to others. He retired from the US Postal Service after 25 years of service in 1990.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Helton Springs Baptist Church with funeral services to follow. Rev. Gary Satterfield will officiate the services. Interment will follow the service at Helton Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Helton Springs Cemetery Fund, 464 Rocky Branch Rd, Rutledge, TN 37861, or to Kingswood Home for Children, 160 Wachtel Rd, Bean Station, TN 37708.
