Suggested edit: From the NYS Adj.-Gen.'s report on the 170th NYSV: "DENNISTON, MARVIN R. — Age, 18 [sic] years. Enlisted, September 19, 1862, at New York city, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. I, October 7, 1862; deserted, October 16, 1862, at Camp Scott, Staten Island, New York Harbor."
From the American Civil War Research Database: Enlisted in Co. C, 33rd New Jersey Infantry on February 29, 1864. Promoted corporal of Co B, June 3, 1865. Mustered out, July 17, 1865. He receive an invalid's pension and his wife a widow's pension.
